Who am I....

My photo
Ellen
The most important thing about me is my love for and relationship with Christ. I have a teaching degree and currently teach 1st grade at a local Christian school. I am striving to please Christ in everything I do. And although I have not yet obtained the prize, I am fixing my eyes on Jesus as I run the race of life. “Let us not cease to do the utmost, that we may incessantly go forward in the way of the Lord; and let us not despair of the smallness of our accomplishments” ~John Calvin~

Good Reads

1984 1984 by George Orwell

My review

rating: 4 of 5 stars
Unlike most, I was never required to read this book in high school lit. For that I am somewhat glad. I think I had a better appreciation and understanding of the book than I would have as a teen.
Written in the late 40's, Orwell predicts what he thinks life will be like in 30 years. It follows the life of Winston, who lives in what was formerly London. The government controls what they think, eat, drink, buy, with whom they have relationships, and (most importantly) what they learn about the past and present.
Eerily, his projections, although not entirely fulfilled, seem to be coming closer and closer to reality. The government may not control us in the same ways, but the technology to do so is already in existence. They have even started altering past history, as Orwell predicted would happen. While most people learn about and even remember the horrors of the Holocaust, certain places in England have actually taken it out of the history books!
People beware- Big Brother is watching!!
